Annette Lark Counselling in Tunbridge Wells

About Counselling

Counselling helps support people experiencing the many difficulties and challenges that can arise in life, whether it is a recent problem that brings you to therapy or perhaps earlier life events. I specialise in psychodynamic counselling, this approach lies in between counselling and psychotherapy. It provides you with an opportunity to talk about current difficulties at your own pace in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space. It can help by:

  • offering support during times of crisis or transition.
  • deepening awareness of yourself and your relationships.
  • offering a safe place where you can speak about thoughts or feelings that worry or frighten you.
  • making sense of recurrent problems by exploring their links with the past.
  • challenging tendencies to repeat unhelpful patterns of thought and behaviour.
  • clarifying choices and helping resolve old hurts and conflicts.

The greater insight learnt though this type of therapy helps us to learn from our experiences. It can offer new ways of thinking and relating to others, help you feel differently and can lead to lasting change in the way that you live your present life.

    What to do next?
You can either contact me by phone or email, however I find it useful to spend a few minutes on the phone to find out who you are and what brings you to counselling. I realise that this is a big step but it is also important that I am the right counsellor for you. We can then arrange a date and time that suits.

What happens at our first meeting?
The initial consultation is different to other counselling sessions in that it gives me the opportunity to find out more about you and what you would like to achieve from the work together. It also gives you the opportunity to talk about the difficulties that you are having and decide whether counselling is the right kind of help for you. It is sometimes possible to have a few sessions before deciding whether to continue.
